"Life begins the day you start a garden."
We're a San Jose, California, and vicinity garden club dedicated to a shared
interest in "hands on" gardening. The purpose of the club is
to share an avid interest in gardening with like-minded women and men; and to
further our knowledge and practical skills.
Our motto is to "garden and have fun". No complicated
rules and regulations, just a desire to create beautiful gardens in even
the tiniest spaces, expand our knowledge, share what we know with each
other, and tour public and private gardens and nurseries.
This club was founded in January 2002 by Laura Balaoro and Ruth Eastman, who
felt the need for a garden club in this part of the valley.
So they got together, invited some of their friends, and thus the club was born.
After some time, the idea of opening the club to the public was broached.
At first everyone hesitated because they were meeting at each other's homes.
Gradual steps were taken.
Ruth's son Doug created a fabulous, easy-to-manage website.
Word began to spread.
Susie Martin volunteered a meeting room at Evergreen Valley High School.
The club now has a Yahoogroups discussion group (linked from the home page).
New members join each month, creating more opportunities to
grow and learn from fellow garden enthusiasts. If you are new, don't hesitate
to speak up, participate, and volunteer for your favorite projects.
